The Inaugural KC Regional Quilt Fest!!
This past weekend was the Inaugural KC Regional Quilt Fest at the Overland Park Convention Center. Planning for this show started 2 years ago when 15 regional quilt guilds came together to sponsor a large show. We had guilds that due to guild size and age of quilters, had decided that annual shows where too taxing, and we also felt that KC was ready for a large show that covered all areas of quilting. So after lots of hours of work---voila! The Inaugural Quilt Fest happened!
Set-up and classes started on Thursday, and classes continued through Saturday. The exhibits and vendors opened up Friday and went through Sunday. Over 700 quilts were hung--the Best of QuiltCon, the Beatles collection, the KC STAR quilts, judged quilts and sponsoring guild displays.
And wow! Such creativity all under one roof! Pieced, applique, mixed techniques, traditional and modern--just awe inspiring.
Over 90 vendors--all quilt related (even the 3 jewelry booths focused on quilting themed). I went with a shopping list in an attempt to curb my spending--notice I say attempt! Just too many goodies to see and touch not to overspend.
Plus some nice demos--I was particularly interested in one that showed lots of unique ways to use the drunkard's path block.
The next Fest is planned for 2017 in Overland Park at the Convention Center again--although it will be a Thurs-Sat show. So get your entries ready, save money for your trip and the vendors--and plan to be there! In the meantime, here is a quilt from the Fest--a Best of QuiltCon.
