Sometimes simple is best.
I've been off the long arm for several weeks--new flooring in my basement studio that due to some "issues" took much longer than expected--but I'm back with tons of quilts that need to be done and in some cases mailed, before Christmas. Despite that, sometimes you just have to take a break from those custom jobs to do something simple.
This small modern quilt--made from linen/cotton blend and a peppered solid was just the thing. It only measured about 40x40 and it's owner asked for simple--just lines. For those of you working on many modern designs, channel locks are essential. After loading it, I simply set the horizontal channel lock and stitched. I didn't even use a ruler for distancing, instead "measuring" off the 1/4" hopping foot. This project stitched up very quickly. Lesson? Simple lines can dress a quilt very well, especially a small modern quilt. And using your walking foot of your sewing machine, you can easily do a small wall hanging or small quilt on your home machine.
Note: the Miami Co. Quilters Guild provides quilts for all county residents that suffer through a house fire, flood, etc. Right before Thanksgiving, the senior apartment facility in Osawatomie was struck by fire that displaced all 46 residents. We usually have 6-8 quilts completed and ready--but 46?? So we are asking quilters that might have one of those quilts that you made "just cause" and it hasn't found a home yet, to think about donating it for this cause. We'd like to get quilts to all of these residents by Christmas. So if you have a twin to queen size quilt that you'd be willing to donate, please mail to:
Miami Co. Quilters Guild, P.O. Box 472, Paola, kS 66071--or if you live in Miami, Linn or Johnson Co. Ks and want it picked up, call 913-963-1112 and leave a message. You will be provided with a tax letter on request. Thanks for any help you can provide.
